Opened in 1996 by a group of leading community physicians, Physicians Medical Center (PMC) is a 30-bed, acute care hospital located in Houma, the heart of Bayou Country, 50 miles southwest of New Orleans.
Originally opened as an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), PMC has since expanded into an acute care facility offering a full range of surgical and ancillary services. We have six state-of-the-art operating suites, one cysto suite, one endoscopy suite and 30 in-patient rooms (27 of which are private). PMC also offers a full service Imaging Department and a comprehensive Breast Care Center. Each of our in-patient rooms offers a 27” flat screen TV as well as complimentary Wi-Fi. To make the most of their time while recuperating, personal work desks are available bedside for patients and their guests who want to get some work done while staying with us.
PMC receives patients from all parts of the country. Many businesses (small, large, local and otherwise) have realized that our business model saves them money when their employees and family members require surgery. We can do the same for individuals as well.
Several of our surgeons market their specialized services worldwide. As a result, we receive international patients as well. For those who travel in, we will be delighted to assist with travel plans such as ground transportation and local accommodations. Many of our traveling patients inquire about spending some time in New Orleans prior to their surgery. We can assist with those plans as well.
For patients who are self pay, we are able to offer this alternative payment method. Simply contact us and within 24 hours, we will quote you the costs associated with your non-emergency surgical procedure. It’s that easy.
Since 1996, we have performed over 75,000 procedures across a broad range of inpatient and outpatient specialties. Our staff of over 100 includes 50 nurses. Over 100 local surgeons/physicians are credentialed to practice at PMC. As a physician-owned hospital, we have provided the Tri-Parish area with an alternative to the traditional, public hospital experience.
